After I drew up the idea, I returned to the same location on a clearer day and snapped photos of the docking area.
This project all began when I was scouting locations for a different project (the photo titled “Dried Up”). It was an incredibly foggy day with a mysterious feel and I decided to snap a few pictures of the water.
The challenge of this image was to create a realistic looking reflection and ripple that a giant cell phone would create. I solved this by using a large inflatable white raft that is shaped exactly like a smartphone. I tied a string to the raft and pulled on it with my arm while remotely triggering the camera. This created small waves and perfect reflection shots to be used for the phone-rafts. I got a few puzzled looks from people passing by, just another day at the office for me!
